Bruny Island Tasmania is renowned as a fantastic fishing destination and Quarantine bay right in front of our Free Spirit Pods accommodation is the no exception. Guests of Free Spirit Pods have access to our fishing rods, hand lines, bait and tackle and have been having great success with their fishing endeavours. One group of guests caught 26 flathead in one evening fishing session. Fish are abundant in Quarantine bay and we encourage our guests to get out there and experience an evening session fishing from our Jetty right in front on our Bruny Island Accommodation.
Major angling species found on Bruny Island:
- morwong (perch)
- wrasse, cod
- Australian salmon
- silver trevally
- striped trumpeter
- school and gummy shark
Another fishing highlight is the arrival of large schools of calamari and arrow squid from around October each year.
These will be found all around the island. The bigger squid usually arrive first and the run lasted well into the new year.
Fishing around the jetty with mussels and anchovies will often bring good results. This area is rich in oysters (great
to eat)..and offers a safe mooring.
So when you get to Free Spirit Pods feel free to grab a fishing rod or two & head down to the waterfront-jetty – 100m
down the pathway, thru the gate & head to your LEFT it’s only a 5 min stroll.
